Punta Serena Self Discovery Place is a holistic counselling service located in Vaughan
which integrates the bi-psycho social model of treatment along with a more gentler and
natural approach to balancing, cleansing and restoring the body's natural healing ability.
What is Emotional Wellness?
Emotional Wellness is an integration of the mind/body & spirit. The appreciation that everything
we do, think and feel has an impact on our state of well-being and the world around us.
Although no particular route can be given as being the only path to wellness, however, the
biggest claim to life is fear and self-doubt. The unspoken fears contribute to more dis-ease
than can be imagined by the human mind!
There are many factors contributing to emotional and psychological challenges. However, this
silent epidemic affecting one in four Canadians is in a ‘nutshell’ lack of self- awareness and
spiritual consciousness and choosing to remain the in the ‘victim’ trap. There are three
categories of sufferers - we have the obvious sufferers, those who suffer in silence, but the
largest percentage are those who are in denial, perpetuating the cycle! Emotional and
psychological challenges know no boundaries of geography, culture, creed or status. However
these challenges can be overcome through knowledge, self-awareness, and understanding.

Serena Self-Discovery Place,
which was established in 1998.
Prior to establishing Punta
Serena, Rita was employed by a
number of social service providers
including The York Region Abuse
Program, York Central Hospital,
Caritas Project, Rexdale Women's
Centre, Catholic Community
Services.
Rita is the chair of Wrap Around
Vaughan, an organization which
assists families with complex
needs. She is also a board
member of Hospice Vaughan.
